
Villarma Runs Third-Fastest 1500 in Program History

EUGENE, Ore. -- Gonzaga's Mason Villarma ran the third-fastest 1,500-meter time in program history at the Oregon Twilight Friday. He placed 12th against elite competition with a time of 3:45.91 at Historic Hayward Field.
Villarma crossed the line in second in the first of two heats. The junior ran his previous personal record of 3:46.05 in 2016. That time was the previous third-fastest time in program history.
Scott Kopczynski rose from seventh to sixth on the GU all-time list with a 3:47.24 finish Friday. He was fifth in the first heat and 15th overall. The sophomore's previous PR was 3:47.91, run earlier this season at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
Brandon Pollard came in 21st place at 3:48.48. His 3:46.34 finish at the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 20, ranks fourth in program history.
A large group of Zags head to the Portland Twilight next Saturday. It will be the final chance for qualifying marks for the NCAA West Preliminary from May 24-26, in Sacramento, Calif. Live video and results from the Portland Twilight will be available on GoZags.com.
