Biography
Gonzaga- In his freshman season, Kopczynski scored for the Zags at numerous meets throughout the cross country season, and represented Gonzaga at the WCC Cross Country Championships. His 8K XC time of 24:14 puts him 8th on the all-time list. During the Indoor season, he ran the 3rd fastest time in Gonzaga history over 3,000 meters clocking 8:11.80 and the number #2 indoor Mile time of 4:06.56. Redshirted 2016 Outdoor season. As a sophomore, Kopczynski continued to lead the Zags running 14:09.16 (#5 all-time Zag) in the 5k and 3:50 in the 1500m. Following that as a Junior he ran a personal best of 3:46.01 (#5 all-time Zag) for 1500m and qualified for the NCAA Western Regional.
High School- Graduate of East Valley High School in Spokane, WA…4 time 2A WIAA State Track and Field Champion…as a junior he won the 1600 and 3200 meters in times of 4:15.81 and 9:14.67…won the 1600 and 3200 meters again as a senior in times of 4:12.36 and 9:08.64…As a senior he placed 3rd at the 2014 2A WIAA State XC meet and 4th as a junior…2 time Nike Border Clash participant…placed 7th at the NXN regional meet in Boise, ID to qualify for the national meet in Portland, OR placing 51st…coached by 2012 Gonzaga graduate Andrew Walker…personal bests of 1:58 (800), 4:12 (1600) and 9:03 (3200)
Personal- Computer science major…chose Gonzaga because: I like that GU is a team on the rise and I couldn’t see myself running anywhere else after my visit…future goals: qualify for NCAA’s, become an All-American, and graduate with a GPA of 3.7 or above…weird fact: I can solve any Rubik cube…secret addiction: video games…nickname: Scotty.
