
Bulldogs Climb to 13th Following Round 2

Gonzaga was three-under in the second round
LAHAINA, Hawaii – The Gonzaga men's golf team rose from 17th to 13th place after the second round of the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic.
After a five-over (289) first round Friday, the Zags were three-under (281) Saturday. The sixth annual event is being played at the Royal Ka'anapali Course.
"Much better today in windy conditions and close to a really good day," GU Head Coach Robert Gray said. "Three big numbers were the difference. Despite that, the guys hung in there with some Top-50 programs today."
The Bulldogs' Matthew Ruel is tied for 40th, after carding a 68 (-3) in Round 2. The redshirt junior made five birdies and 11 pars on the second day. He is two-under (140) entering the final round.
Charlie Magruder made four birdies and was one-over (72) in the second round. He is tied 47th at one-under (141). Grant Johnson is two-over (144) after two rounds. The Walnut Creek, Calif., native, was even-par (71) Saturday. He made six birdies during Round 2.
Zach Stocker (+6, 148) and Brentt Salas (+8, 150) are tied for 93rd and 104th. Stocker was one-under (70) in the second round, making four birdies, nine pars and an eagle on the Par-4 seventh hole. Salas had his second-straight round of 75 (+4).
No. 18 Washington climbed five spots on the team leaderboard and is in first place. The Huskies were 17-under (267) on Day 2, and are 27-under (541). No. 5 Oklahoma is a stroke behind at 26-under (542), while No. 23 UCLA is 25-under (543).
Georgia's Trent Phillips tops the individual leaderboard at 13-under (129), following a seven-under (64) second round. Quade Cummins is in second place at 11-under (131).
The third and final round of the tournament begins at 11:30 a.m. Pacific Time Sunday. Live scoring will be available on GoZags.com.
