Zags Finish Strong Week with 4-0 Win Over Wyoming

GU combined to win two weekend matches 11-0
SPOKANE, Wash. — Gonzaga women's tennis capped off a strong weekend with a 4-0 win over visiting Wyoming on Saturday at the Stevens Center.
Gonzaga (4-1) battled through a tough doubles point and then seized the match in singles, starting with a dominating win from Vlada Medvedcova. Wyoming (4-5) kept things close, but it was GU that was able to complete the sweep.
"That was a really feisty, competitive Wyoming team," head coach D.J. Gurule said. "It is great to see our team respond in tough situations. I thought Vlada came out and really set the tone in singles and helped us get the momentum. It's nice to have a match like that before we face Washington. All in all, I feel like we are heading in the right direction."
In doubles, the momentum swung back-and-forth on the first two courts, while the GU duo of Haruna Tsuruta and Kate Ketels put the Zags out in front with a 6-4 win on No. 3. On No. 1, Sophie Whittle and Graciela Rosas held serve to force a tiebreak, then dominated 7-2 in the breaker to clinch the point.
In singles, Medvedcova lost just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win in the first singles match to finish. With a 2-0 lead, GU was down a set on two courts and tied on another. No. 111 Domonique Garley was up a set, however, went on to finish her match 6-4, 6-3 to make it 3-0.
Top-ranked Sophie Whittle then showed her toughness on No. 1, coming back from down a set to clinch the match with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory.
GU's Kate Ketels was up a set and led 5-4 in the second on No. 6 when the match went unfinished. Sara Komer was also in control, leading 3-0 in the third set in her match.
