Freshman Torre finished with first-career Top 20 in 13th place
SEAL BEACH, Calif. — Gonzaga women's golf capped play with another solid round at The Gold Rush, finishing in seventh as a team, on Tuesday at Old Ranch Country Club.
The Zags had moved from 12th to seventh in the second round, and held that spot with a 294 (+6) on the day, led by a one-under 71 from Francesca Santoni. Three Zags finished in the top 20, including Federica Torre, Jessica Mangrobang and Quynn Duong.
"I am really happy and encouraged by how good we were in the second and third rounds," head coach Brad Rickel said. "We showed that we were one of the best teams in the tournament in those two rounds. Francesca [Santoni] came back and had a fantastic round today to lead us. Federica [Torre] showed she is here to play, and we really look forward to seeing her grow. And Jessica had a really great tournament. Her attitude was amazing and her consistency helped us tremendously."
Torre and Mangrobang each posted a two-over 74 in Tuesday's final round. That gave Torre her first-career Top-20 finish at four over par in 13th place. She was especially good on the Par 4s, playing them in even par for the tournament, one of only five players to play them at par or better.
Mangrobang placed 18th overall at six-over, and Duong was tied for 19th at seven-over. Mangrobang did her scoring on the Par 5s, playing them at three-under for the tournament, the fourth-best mark. Duong and Santoni each totaled nine birdies in the tournament, tied for 12th best.
Overall, Santoni placed 57th at 17-over, and Nina Novilla was 77th at 27-over.
The Zags will be back on the course at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational on Oahu on March 12-14. Available links to live scoring will be on GoZags.com.
