KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced the 2019 NABC Coaches' Division I All-America teams Tuesday. Gonzaga's
Rui Hachimura was named First Team All-American, becoming the third Zag to earn first team honors by the NABC.
Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, the first, second and third teams represent the most outstanding basketball players across America.
Hachimura was tabbed the WCC Player of the Year. He is averaging 19.7 points per game. He is shooting 60.3 percent from the field and grabbing 6.6 rebounds per game. The junior also has 26 blocks this season. He made 63.5 percent of his shots from the field in conference play, which ranked fourth in the league.
Hachimura scored in double-digits in 33 of the Zags' 35 games this season, reaching 20 or more points 20 times. He has four double-doubles so far this season. The Toyama, Japan, native scored a career-high 33 points against Idaho State.
Former Zags, Adam Morrison and Kelly Olynyk, were tabbed first team All-American by the NABC in 2005-06 and 2012-13. Nigel Williams-Goss was the last GU player recognized, earning second team honors in 2016-17.
Top-seeded Gonzaga (32-3) faces fourth-seeded Florida State (29-7) in the West Regional Semifinals Thursday at 4:09 p.m. on CBS.
