Munetake Ties for Seventh after Stellar Third Round

Zags’ senior climbs leaderboard with a 66 on the final day
UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – Gonzaga's Tyler Munetake carded a 66 (-5) in the third and final round of the SeattleU Redhawk Invitational on the Chambers Bay Golf Course Tuesday. He climbed the leaderboard and finished in a tie for seventh.
Munetake's 66 matches the third-lowest round in program history. He eagled Hole 1, and made six birdies and eight pars in Round 3. The senior finished seven-under (206) in the tournament, moving up from 30th on the final day. He led the 102-golfer field with a 3.67 (-4) average on the course's Par-5 holes. He was also two-under (2.50) on Par-3 holes. Munetake made six birdies over the 54 holes.
Gonzaga placed 16th at 11-over (863). The Zags were one-over (285) as a team in the third round. GU finished best on the course's Par-3 holes in the 18-team tournament. The Bulldogs had a 2.65 team average on the Par-3 holes, going seven-under on them in the tournament.
Grant Johnson was two-under (69) on Day 2. He tied for 55th, with a 216 (+3) three-day total. The freshman made four birdies and 12 pars in the third round. Charlie Magruder tied for 65th at five-over (218) He was two-over (73) in Round 3. Magruder also made four birdies and 12 pars in the final round. Both Johnson and Magruder went two-under (2.50) on Par-3 holes during the tournament.
Nick Nolan (+11, 224) and Holden Backes (+16, 229) rounded out the Gonzaga finishes. Nolan was six-over (77) in the third round, while Backes was eight-over (79).
UCLA came in first at 37-under (815). The Bruins finished 12 strokes ahead of second-place Fresno State, behind a first place finish from Hidetoshi Yoshihara. He held on to medalist honors following an even-par (71) round Tuesday. Yoshihara ended the tournament 13-under (200).
Gonzaga returns to the Wyoming Cowboy Classic on April 8-9. The three-round tournament in Chandler, Ariz., will have live scoring on GoZags.com.
