
Pollard Leads Dominant Zag Mile Showing

Villarma places second in Seattle
SPOKANE, Wash. — Gonzaga's Brandon Pollard took the men's mile title at the Spokane Memorial Open Friday night at Spokane Falls Community College.
The Zags swept the top 11 spots of the mile led by Pollard. He crossed the line at 4:07.71. Scott Kopczynski was second at 4:08.15, followed by Yacine Guermali in third with a time of 4:11.29. Andrew Clusserath (4:14.16) and Jake Perrin (4:14.70) were fourth and fifth.
In the men's 5,000 meters, Phillip Fishburn was first at 14:56.52. Hunter Simpson placed third with a time of 15:05.64.
Morgan Greene was second in the women's mile. She crossed the line at 5:20.90. Brazee Smith (5:32.19) and Ariel Evans (5:34.54) were fourth and fifth.
Saturday at the Ken Shannon Invitational in Seattle, Mason Villarma was second in the men's 1,500 meters. His time of 3:49.27 was a season-best for the Zags. Washington's Isaac Green was first at 3:48.19.
Gonzaga has one final chance to run qualifying times for the NCAA West Preliminary Round at the West Coast Invitational next Saturday in Salem, Ore.
