Daniels Inducted into Assistant Coaches Hall of Fame

Zags’ coach was a part of inaugural class

SPOKANE, Wash. –  Gonzaga assistant coach Donny Daniels was inducted into the A STEP UP Assistant Coaches Hall of Fame during the Legends Breakfast on Tuesday at the downtown Sheraton Atlanta Hotel.
 
After being a vital part of Gonzaga's success the last nine years, Zags' assistant coach Donny Daniels is retiring from GU.
 
The Bulldogs have gone 277-49 since Daniels joined the staff, including 137-15 in West Coast Conference play. Daniels has helped the Zags to eight West Coast Conference regular season titles and seven WCC Tournament championships. GU has made the NCAA Tournament in each of Daniels' nine seasons on staff, including an appearance in the national championship game in the program's first-ever Final Four in 2017.
 
Daniels has been five Final Fours with three different programs (Gonzaga in 2017, UCLA in 2006, 2007 and 2008, and Utah in 1998), with a national championship appearance with each program.
 
The Hall of Fame honorees consisted of four coaches from DI men's basketball, four DI women's basketball and two each from Divisions II and III. 
 
The Class of 2019
Division I Inductees:  Donny Daniels (Gonzaga), Chris Dailey (UConn), Mickie DeMoss (Consultant), Stan Jones (Florida State), Carol Owens (Notre Dame), Steve Robinson (North Carolina), Dwayne Stephens (Michigan State) and Amy Tucker (Stanford); 

Division II Inductees: C. White (Bentley) and Dan Shardo (Findlay)
 
Division III Inductees: Arthur Howell (Emmanuel College) and Tom Jessee (Augustana College). 

The Hall of Fame ceremony kicked off a three-day event for A STEP UP, where close to 200 women's and men's collegiate basketball coaches and athletic administrators convened in Atlanta for the annual professional development symposiums. A STEP UP is celebrating its' tenth year as one of the premier professional development events for assistant collegiate basketball coaches.
