SPOKANE, Wash. – Heading back to Whitworth after opening the season at the Sam Adams Classic last Friday, Gonzaga men's and women's track combined for 19 Top-Five finishes and three event wins to wrap up the Buc Scoring Invitational March 24-25, with the GU men getting 17 personal bests and the GU women notching 3 more All-Time Top 10 finishes.
Elisabeth Danis ran the sixth-fastest 1500m in program history en route to a third-place overall finish, just ahead of Brittney Hansen's ninth-fastest finish (4:35.52) for fourth. Ireland Robertson (4:39.49) and Emily Phelps (4:40.03) took ninth and tenth place to make it four GU runners in the top 10.
Ellie Armbruster continued her record-setting ways in the sprints, running the fastest outdoor 200m in program history with a 26.1-second time to nab a top-five finish and following that up with another program best in the 400m for fourth place. Morgan Greene (2:14.80) and Alyssa Bienfang (2:15.32) also took second and third in the 800m, respectively.
Dominic Arce (3:49.43) and Riley Moore (3:49.94) both ran personal bests in the 1500m, finishing second and third overall ahead of Kyle Radosevich (3:52.00, fifth-place). Arce's finish barely edged out Moore for tenth-fastest in program history, and all five Zag runners finished with personal bests.
The Zag men dominated the 5000m, going 1-2-3-4-5 with all five notching personal bests. Cooper Laird (14:31.58) took first for his first collegiate win, closing the final 400 with a 61.92 time. Jackson Lyne (14:34.63) came next, followed by Ben Hogan (14:35.18), Jeremiah Mackie (14:44.44) and Jaxon Mackie (14:45.95) to round out the Zags' sweep. Nicola DiMartino () and Sam McCloughan () made it seven Zags in the top 10 with seventh- and eighth-place finishes.
Last season the GU distance squad had 13 athletes run sub-15-minute times for the 5K — 10 were sub-14:30. After just two races this season, 14 have run sub-15 times, with three in the sub-14:30 category.
Quentin Rickey took home first place in the 3000m steeplechase with a 9:50.27 time, and the women's 4x400m set another school record with a first-place 49.88-second finish to round out the Zags' event wins.
