HENDERSON, Nev. – The Gonzaga women's golf team completed the first round of the West Coast Conference Championships on Thursday. The tournament is a three-day event, with 18-hole rounds to be played on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The event is being played at Reflection Bay Golf Club, a Par 72 course less than 20 miles east of Las Vegas.
Competing WCC teams include BYU, Gonzaga, Pepperdine, San Francisco and Santa Clara. Five golfers will represent each school, and the top four individual scores from each school will combine for the team score in each round.
In Round 1, the Bulldogs combined to shoot 36-over (324) and are in fifth place, tallying 50 holes of par-or-better scores on the day.
Quynn Duong and Chaewon Baek matched scores in the first round, shooting seven-over (79). The two are in a tie for 18th place heading into the second round. Duong made ten pars and two birdies in her opening round, while Baek scattered 12 pars and one birdie.
Cassie Kim and Ivanna Montemayor are four strokes behind Duong and Baek after each turning in scores of 11-over (83) in Round 1. Kim contributed ten of Gonzaga's 45 pars on the day, including six in her first eight holes. Montemayor made six pars and two birdies, and the two are in a tie for 23rd place. Kaysa Panke (+16, 88) is in 24th place after Day 1.
Pepperdine's Lauren Gomez leads all individuals after posting the only sub-par round on the day, shooting two-under (70). Four golfers are tied for second place at three-over (75). The Waves also hold the team lead, combining to shoot 11-over (299) in Round 1. BYU trails by four strokes (+15, 303).
Tee times for Round 2 begin at 7 a.m. Pacific Standard Time on Friday. Information on pairings and live scoring will be available at GoZags.com.
