Zag senior is six-over entering final round
HENDERSON, Nev. – Gonzaga women's golf is through the first two rounds of the West Coast Conference Championships at Reflection Bay Golf Club. Competing WCC teams include BYU, Gonzaga, Pepperdine, San Francisco and Santa Clara. Rounds 1 and 2 were completed on Thursday and Friday, with Round 3 wrapping up on Saturday.
In each round, the top four scores from each team will combine for the team score. In the first round, Gonzaga combined to shoot 36-over (324) and sat in fifth place after Day 1.
The Bulldogs remained in fifth place after Round 2, shooting 27-over (315) as a team, bringing their tournament score to 63-over par (639). GU added 50 holes of par-or-better scores on the day and have combined to make 89 pars and 11 birdies through the first two rounds.
Quynn Duong, after turning in a score of seven-over (79) on Thursday, rose 13 spots from 18th place on Friday. The San Jose native shot one-under (71) in Round 2 and sits in fifth place heading into Saturday's final round at six-over (150). Duong started off strong on Day 2, making eight of her 14 second round pars on the front nine. Her run continued on the back nine, including back-to-back birdies on holes 11 and 12, and a final birdie on 18. Her 23 total pars is tied for the most among the 25-player field, and her five birdies are tied for second-most.
Cassie Kim is in a tie for 19th after shooting six-over (78) in the second round, a five-stroke improvement from her opening round. Rising four spots on the individual leaderboard, Kim (+17, 161) made ten pars and one birdie on Day 2 and has tallied 20 pars in the first two rounds.
Chaewon Baek matched Duong's score of seven-over (79) in Round 1. On Friday, she shot 11-over (83), dropping five spots on the individual leaderboard to 23rd at 18-over (162) for the tournament. Baek has compiled 19 pars and one birdie through two rounds. Ivanna Montemayor (+23, 167) dropped one spot and is in 24th place heading into the final round, shooting 12-over (84) in Round 2.
Pepperdine's Lauren Gomez continues to hold the top spot on the individual leaderboard after the second round, combining to shoot two-under (142) in Rounds 1 and 2. Annick Haczkiewicz is the closest trailing golfer at one-over (145). Pepperdine holds a comfortable 19-stroke lead on the team leaderboard heading into the Round 3 on Saturday at 18-over par (594).
