Truong was drafted 21st overall

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Kaylynne Truong became the eighth player in Gonzaga history to be drafted by the WNBA on Monday night, as the Washington Mystics took her in the second round with the 21st overall pick.

She will become the 10th player from the Zags to sign with an WNBA team. She joins former Zags Courtney Vandersloot, Vivian Frieson, Kayla Standish, Katelan Redmon, Haiden Palmer, and Jill Barta as players who have been drafted into the WNBA. She also joins Brynna Maxwell, who was drafted earlier in the same round at the 13th overall pick in the 2024 draft.

Truong played five years at GU and was the 2023 WCC Player of the Year. She was given All-WCC First Team honors in her last two years as well. Truong is second all-time in career assists at GU with 623 assists as she scored 1,508 points in her career as well to rank 10th overall in Gonzaga history. Truong has also appeared in the most games in GU history with 161 games as she was an AP All-American honorable mention during the 2022-23 season.

The Washington Mystics open their season on Saturday, May 4 against the Atlanta Dream.

Lisa Fortier on Brynna Maxwell & Kaylynne Truong being drafted: I am so happy for Brynna and Lynne. They have put in a tremendous amount of hours working on their game, and it's so exciting to see their hard work pay off. I know that they will make a great impression when they get to their respective cities. As a coach, it is such a joyful moment when you see these players reach their goals.
