PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland used a first half goal to escape with a 1-0 victory at home over Gonzaga women's soccer Friday.
In a match that featured only six combined shots on goal, both teams showcased their defenses on a chilly and rainy night. Gonzaga outshot the Pilots (8-3-6, 5-1-3 West Coast Conference) 9-7, but Portland had a 4-2 edge in shots on goal. The Bulldogs also had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Portland's game-winner was Jillian McBride's first goal of the season. She struck a shot from distance that hit the top half of the back of the net. Keeley Dockter was credited with the assist.
Michaela McCollum made three saves in the GU (6-9-2, 4-3-2 WCC) net. Sophia Hills had two saves for the Pilots. The Zags'
Amelia Severn had two shots, both were on frame.
