Gonzaga Sweeps West Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Weekly Honors

The duo led the Zags to a 2-0 week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Gonzaga earned a sweep of the first West Coast Conference Women's Basketball weekly awards of the season, as Allie Turner was voted the Player of the Week and Lauren Whittaker was named the Freshman of the Week following standout performances in a pair of road victories.
 
WEST COAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – ALLIE TURNER, SO., G – GONZAGA
Turner, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo., averaged 17.0 points and 3.5 assists to lead Gonzaga in two road wins. The guard opened the season with a game-high 18 points, adding three rebounds and a pair of assists in leading the Zags to a double-digit win at North Dakota State (81-66) on Friday. She was 6-of-11 overall and 4-of-5 from three-point range in the win. On Sunday, Turner poured in 16 points and added five assists in Gonzaga's 72-69 victory at Toledo. Turner connected on a pair of threes, including a key three-pointer with 45 seconds remaining to extend Gonzaga's lead to 68-63. She helped seal the win with a pair of free throws to put the Zags up three with six seconds left.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK – LAUREN WHITTAKER, F – GONZAGA
Whittaker, a redshirt freshman from Canterbury, New Zealand, averaged 14.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in her first two collegiate contests. She scored 13 points and collected nine rebounds in 18 minutes in the season-opening victory at North Dakota State on Friday. The forward then registered 16 points and six rebounds while adding two assists in Gonzaga's three-point win at Toledo on Sunday. Whittaker knocked down a pair of three throws to put the Zags up four with 17 seconds remaining in the win at Toledo.
