WBB Wins First Round of WBIT Against UTSA, 67-51

Ejim recorded her 13th double double of the season

SPOKANE, Wash. – In Gonzaga's first appearance in the WBIT, the Bulldogs defeated UTSA in the First Round, 67-51. The Zags advance to play in the Second Round of the tournament against Colorado in Boulder, Colo. 

Yvonne Ejim recorded her 13th double double of the season with 24 points and 16 rebounds. Allie Turner also had a record-breaking night as she scored her 97th three-pointer of the season to claim the single season record of most threes made. She added 13 points for the Zags and made threes on the night. Maud Huijbens also had double figures for the Bulldogs, scoring 11 points.

GU outscored UTSA in the first quarter, 23-17. The Zags had a 15-0 run begin in the first and continue on to the second as GU extended its lead to 10 midway through the second, 32-22.

The Zags held UTSA scoreless in the final two minutes of the half to take the halftime lead, 36-27. At the half, Gonzaga was shooting 51.9% from the floor as Ejim went 7-for-8. Huijbens also had nine points for GU in the first half.

Defensively, the Bulldogs forced 10 turnovers and won the rebounding battle by one, 17-16. GU also had 16 points in the paint compared to UTSA's eight.

The Zags held on to the lead for the rest of the game by outscoring UTSA in both final quarters. Overall, Gonzaga shot 45.5% from the floor and held UTSA to 31.6%. The Roadrunners also made four threes and went 19% from beyond the arc. 

GU won the rebounding battle, 37-34, with 30 of those being defensive rebounds. Ejim had a phenomenal defensive performance as well, grabbing seven steals, as Gonzaga forced 19 turnovers altogether. 

Notes:
With 24 points today, Yvonne Ejim has scored 20 points or more 20 times this season. She also recorded her 13th double double of the season.

Allie Turner broke the single season record for most made threes (97), surpassing Brynna Maxwell's single season record of 96 from 2023-24.
