SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga track teams split squads Thursday, racing at the Whitworth Twilight Meet while others competed on day two of the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. A total of 25 Bulldogs ran attached at Whitworth Thursday on Boppell Track.
Gus Clevenger led the Zag men in the 10,000m to lead off, placing third in 31:18.71 ahead of
Sawyer Clarkson's fourth place 31:44.84. Both times were PRs for the redshirt freshmen.
Jorun Downing led the GU women in the 1500-meters, placing third in a season best 4:43.92. Five of the six attached Bulldogs ran season bests in the event.
Brenden Charbeneau took the win in the men's 1500-meters, running a season best 3:57.09.
Zander Trevino was the lone other Zag in the race, placing 15th in 4:10.00.
Ashlinn Aguayo and
Greta Dani finished just one-hundredth of a second apart in the 400m. Aguayo placed fourth, matching her PR of 59.01 while Dani placed fifth in 59.02, moving into fifth all-time on the program Top Ten.
Downing returned to the oval for the 800-meters, placing sixth in 2:21.46 ahead of
Kate Ferrell (9th, 2:23.30) and
Taylor Hoyer (2:25.08).
Tommy O'Neil just missed a PR in the men's 800m, placing fifth in 1:54.51.
James Powers placed 19th in 2:03.37.
Aguayo and Dani closed out the Bulldogs' evening in the 200-meters. Dani finished in fourth place with a time of 26.07 while Aguayo PR'd with a time of 26.82 in ninth place. Aguayo moves into a three-way tie for eighth all time in program history.
UP NEXT
After wrapping tomorrow in Azusa, Gonzaga will head separate directions next weekend as the women travel to Des Moines for the Drake Relays while the men return to Stanford for the Payton Jordan Invitational.
