Yvonne Ejim Named DI-AAA Scholar-Athlete

She becomes the 11th women's basketball player to earn the honors

CLEVELAND – The Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association (DI-AAA ADA) announced the members of the members of the 23rd Annual Scholar-Athlete Team, which included Gonzaga's Yvonne Ejim.

"It gives us immense pride to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our men's and women's scholar-athlete teams this year," stated Division I-AAA ADA President and Director of Athletics at Loyola University Chicago, Steve Watson. "These students exemplify the perfect balance between academic and athletic commitment. The dedication of these students enhances the core values that we aim to foster in college athletics. In addition, the postgraduate scholarships we provide are another opportunity for us to home in on their extraordinary accomplishment."

Recently drafted by the Indiana Fever, Ejim is arguably one of the best to wear a Gonzaga uniform. The Olympian from Canada holds the record for most points scored (2,385), most rebounds (1,140) and most field goals (970) scored in Gonzaga history. She is the first player in WCC history to record 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. She is the back-to-back WCC Player and WCC Defensive Player of the Year after breaking the single season scoring record with 726 points this season. Last season, she was named GU's first women's basketball player to be named an Academic All-American and the Becky Hammon Player of the Year. She was also tabbed with AP All-American Honors for the second-straight season.

Basketball players from all Division I-AAA ADA member institutions are eligible for these prestigious annual awards. Each of the nominees is required to maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.20 (4.00 scale) in undergraduate study and have been a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletics credentials. Nominees must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games listed on the nomination form. To be eligible for nomination to the Scholar-Athlete Team, individuals must have reached junior academic standing at their respective institution (ineligible athletics transfers are not eligible).

About Division I-AAA ADA: Now in its 24th year, the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association's mission is to enhance initiatives common to its Division I-AAA membership (Division I institutions that do not sponsor football), in particular, aspects related to their flagship basketball programs.
