BOZEMAN, Mont. – Gonzaga women's golf opened their season with a third-place finish at the Yellowstone Intercollegiate hosted by Montana State at the Riverside Country Club.
Brenna Preap led the Zags in her GU debut, tying for eighth place at even-par (216). She carded a 71 (-1) in the opening round, before finishing at one-over (73) in Round 2, and ended with a 72 (E) in the final round. The Stockton, Calif., native, was six-under (4.50) on the course's Par-5 holes, which matched for second-best in the 66-golfer field.
As a team, Gonzaga was 12-over (876), following its even-par (288) Round 1 finish. The Bulldogs then went one-over (289) in the second round. GU's 41 made birdies were the third-most in the event.
Mariko Yonemura tied for 10
th in her Bulldog debut. The freshman was one-over (217). She carded a 69 (-3) in her first collegiate round. She was even-par (72) in Round 2 and four-over (76) in Round 3. In her first round, Yonemura made four birdies and 13 pars.
Grace Lee tied for 20
th at four-over (220).
Taylor Mularski (+14, 230) and
Esther Yoo (+15, 231) were 41
st and 45
th.
Michelle Mogi (T35, +12, 228),
Vanessa Zhang (T48, +17, 233), and
Audrey Park (T60, +25, 241) all participated as individuals.
Eva Heinz led Montana State to the team title with her medalist finish. She was nine-under (207), while Cal Baptist's Samantha Dizon was second at four-under (212).
Montana State cruised to the win as host. The Bobcats were 16-under (282), totaling all three rounds under par. CSU Northridge was second at one-under (863).
Gonzaga is close to home at the Kalispel Invitational hosted by Eastern Washington Sept. 22 and 23. The event at Kalispel Country Club will have live scoring on GoZags.com.
