SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga men's soccer goalkeeper Chema Preciado has been named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Preciado earned the honor after recording a shutout in Gonzaga's 1-0 victory over Cal Poly on Saturday at Luger Field, helping the Bulldogs secure their first Pac-12 Conference win of the season.
The senior goalkeeper played all 90 minutes in goal, recording two saves while holding Cal Poly scoreless despite facing 12 shots. Preciado anchored Gonzaga's defensive effort on Senior Night, preserving the Bulldogs' early one-goal advantage to secure the conference victory.
Preciado becomes the third Zag to earn a Pac-12 weekly honor this season, joining Drew Pedersen, who was named Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 15, and Carson Hammond, who earned Newcomer of the Week honors on Sept. 1.
