Jake Stewart announced the signing of Lucy Spiess as the newest member of Gonzaga Women's Cross Country and Track on Sunday, with Spiess joining GU amidst her senior year at Boise High School.
Spiess joins the Zags after establishing herself as a key part of one of the top high school teams in the Northwest, as Boise recently finished third overall at the NXR Northwest Championship. Lucy Spiess finished 15th overall at the Brooks West Cross Country Championship. Spiess holds a personal best time of 17:52 in a 5k in cross country. On the track, she holds a personal best time of 10:57.15 in the 3200 meters and a 5:17.61 1600 meters time.
A three sport athlete, Spiess has also played competitive soccer and hockey while at Boise High School. She has been a member of the junior team for the Idaho Steelheads, where she played as a forward. Spiess will be joining her current high school teammate Audrey Orme, as both runners have signed to join the Zags as freshman in the fall.
