Gonzaga University senior guard Richie Frahm has been named the West Coast Conference men's basketball Player of the Week.
The red hot Frahm averaged 26.0 points in a pair of Bulldogs wins, shooting an incredible 80.0 percent from the field (16-of-20),including a blistering 9-for-11 (81.8 percent) on 3-pointers. He is now GU's all-time trey-maker with 233, which also ranks 7th on the all-time WCC list. He surpassed John Rillie's school mark of 230.
Frahm, a 6-5 sharpshooter from Battle Ground, Wash., was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field enroute to 27 points against the University of Texas-Pan American last Saturday, making all four of his threes. He canned 5-of-7 treys with 25 points in a win at Idaho. He has scored 20 or more points in five of his last six games, including a season-high 32 against the University of Colorado.
He is averaging a team-high 16.7 ppg this year. After a slow start from the field, he is shooting 46.2 percent (86-186), 40.6 percent from long range (43-106) and 80.7 percent from the free throw line (46-57).
Frahm and the Bulldogs (10-5) open West Coast Conference play Thursday when the University of San Francisco visits The Kennel, followed by Santa Clara University on Saturday. Both games start at 7 p.m., with Saturday's game on various FOX Sports affiliates throughout the West Coast.
