Stanford, one of three unbeaten teams remaining in Division I, was No. 1 in the AP college basketball poll for the third straight week Monday.

LSU and Kentucky moved into the Top 25, giving the Southeastern Conference five ranked teams.

The Cardinal (11-0), who won the Stanford Invitational last week, received 62 first-place votes and 1,738 points from the national media panel as the top seven teams remained unchanged.

Connecticut stayed second with five No. 1 votes and 1,667 points, and was followed by Cincinnati, which was No. 1 on three ballots. Then came Auburn, Arizona, Florida and Syracuse, at 9-0 another of the unbeaten teams.

Duke and Kansas moved up one place each to eighth and ninth. Indiana rounded out the Top Ten.

Michigan State, stunned by Wright State last week, dropped three spots to lead the Second Ten, and was followed by Maryland, Ohio State, North Carolina, Tennessee, Oklahoma State, Texas, Utah, Illinois and Oklahoma.

LSU (12-0), the third of the unbeatens, led the final five teams in the poll and was followed by Tulsa, DePaul, UCLA and Kentucky.

Gonzaga, which fell out of the Associated Press Top 25 rankings last week for the first time this season, received 26 votes in the latest poll. The poll was the first released since the Bulldogs dropped their final two games at the Outrigger Hotels Rainbow Classic last week. Gonzaga (8-5) opened with an 83-55 victory over Ohio University, then droppped decisions to the University of Oregon 70-64 and to the University of Colorado 81-77 to finish fourth in the 8-team field.

Gonzaga received 26 points, which would be good for 32nd if the poll was carried out

LSU knocked Oklahoma State from the ranks of the undefeated last week, and the Tigers are in the Top 25 for the first time since Dec. 13, 1993, the only week they were ranked that season.

Kentucky (8-4) has won four straight games since falling out of the rankings last month after a run of 164 consecutive polls. The Wildcats had been in every Top 25 from Dec. 4, 1990 until last Dec. 13 ? the fifth-longest run in history. Included in their winning streak was a 30-point win over Louisville and a two-point victory over Michigan State.

With LSU and Kentucky joining Auburn, Florida and Tennessee, the SEC has the most ranked teams. The Big 12 ? Kansas, Oklahoma State, Texas and Oklahoma ? and Big Ten ? Indiana, Michigan State, Ohio State and Illinois ? have four each.

Temple (6-3), which lost to Wisconsin last week, dropped out from 17th although the Owls are playing shorthanded because point guard Pepe Sanchez and forward Mark Karcher are injured.

Sanchez has not played since the opening game of the season because of a sprained ankle. Karcher, the leading scorer, is out for up to three weeks after spraining his shoulder against Cleveland State last week.

Wake Forest (9-3) had a rough trip to Hawaii and fell out from 19th. The Demon Deacons lost to Oregon by one point in the opening round of the Rainbow Classic, then beat Ohio University in double overtime before losing 70-57 to Villanova in the fifth-place game.

Oklahoma State's loss to LSU in the season's last matchup of unbeatens caused the Cowboys to have the week's biggest drop, from 11th to No. 16.

Utah and Tulsa made the week's biggest jumps, modest moves of three places to 18th and 22nd, respectively.
