LMU Wins 19th Sraight Over Zags Volleyball

LOS ANGELES - Loyola Marymount dominated play all night long as the Lions hit an amazing .519 in the opening stanza and continued en route to the 30-14, 30-19, 30-14 victory. It was the Lions' 19th consecutive win over the Bulldogs, dating back to Nov. 8, 1992. LMU improved to 11-3, 2-0 in WCC play while Gonzaga fell to 2-13, 0-2 in the WCC.
A pair of Michelle Look service aces, along with kills from Kealani Kimball and Kristen Gallup gave LMU a 17-7 lead in the opening game. Gonzaga was limited to a .069 attack percentage falling 30-14.
Gonzaga took a 9-6 lead in game two after a Christina Davis kill, but LMU scored 20 of the next 27 points to cruise to the victory.
The third game was more of the same, as Gonzaga hit -.029. LMU opened a 4-0 leading before taking an 18-5 advantage, as Laura Gustorf served five consecutive points, including two of her three service aces. The Lions posted a school-record 16 service aces, as freshman Nicole Ridley had four. Gonzaga managed just one as a team.
Gallup led the Lions in with 14 kills. Kimball added nine kills, while Tiana Newsome had eight.
Davis and Abby Cullen each had eight kills for Gonzaga which will host nationally ranked Santa Clara and San Francisco next weekend in Martin Centre.
