Women's Basketball Earns Exhibition Win 88-60

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Gonzaga University women's basketball team defeated NAIA Lewis-Clark State Warriors Saturday night 88-60 at the Kennel during the Bulldogs lone exhibition game of the season.
The Warriors jumped out to a 6-3 early lead with a pair of three-pointers as the two teams traded leads three times and tied once in the first 10 minutes of play.
Freshman Monica Uhrig sparked the Bulldogs at 10:05 when she pulled GU out of the 15-all tie with a solid jumper. Gonzaga slowly pulled away during the remainder of the first half and went to the locker room with a 43-35 lead.
Sophomore forward Ashley Burke paced the Bulldogs with 21 points and seven rebounds. Shannon Mathews contributed 15 points and as she went 5-for-9 from 3-point territory.
Freshman Ashley Anderson grabbed nine rebounds while Anne Bailey came down with eight. All of the newcomers posted points as the freshman produced 25 of the Bulldogs 88 points.
Gonzaga shot 51.4 percent in the first half and 54.5 percent in the second half to finish with a 52.9 percent final.
The Warriors were led by Jessica Foot who scored 15 points and two rebounds while Shanta Coleman recorded the only double double of the game with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Warriors shot 34.4 percent for the game.
The Bulldogs begin regular-season action Friday, Nov. 22, when they travel to Eugene, Ore., to face the University of Oregon at McArthur Court at 5 p.m.
