Men's Tennis Drops First Outing

Pocatello, Idaho - The Idaho State University Bengals men's tennis team (1-2) rolled to its first win of the season Wednesday, defeating the Gonzaga University Bulldogs (0-1) 5-0 at the ISU Indoor Tennis Center.
Malcolm Swan started singles action with a 6-2,6-1 win over Gonzaga's Shawn Whitney in No. 1 action. Bryce Cooper forced a tie-breaking set against Bengal Hestian Stoica as Stoica secured the No. 2 singles win 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
William Okoh and Chris Sadek won the only doubles match of the day between the Bengals and Bulldogs, defeating GU's Andy Livingston and Robert Penny 8-2.
Gonzaga faired better in its second round against the Weber State Wildcats (2-2) as GU fell 4-1.
Drew Ernst earned the only point for the Bulldogs as he downed Kenny Lindley in No. 3 singles action in three sets, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.
Bulldog Shawn Whitney also took the No.1 singles match into three sets before being defeated 6-3, 6-7, 7-6 by Jonathon Englebrecht.
Bryce Cooper and Andy Livingston narrowly missed the doubles win with a 9-7 final against Wildcats doubles team of Zach Rideout and Daniel Abeaboeru.
The Bulldogs return to action Thursday at Utah State University in Logan, Utah at 1 p.m.
