SPOKANE, Wash. - Freshman midfielder Amy MacIntyre scored her first collegiate goal to lead the Gonzaga University women's soccer team in a 1-0 shutout over University of Wyoming on Friday afternoon. The victory marks the first shutout for the Bulldogs during the 2003 season and extends their winning streak to three games, the longest in program history. Gonzaga improved its record to 6-4, while Wyoming dropped to 4-6.
Gonzaga got off to an early start as MacIntyre headed in the lone goal of the match in the seventh minute of play. The La Jolla, Calif., native received the ball off a corner kick by teammate Jessie Torres into the upper left corner of the goal, past the arms of Cowgirl goalkeeper Lori Scheider. MacIntyre is the second freshman for the Bulldogs to score a goal.
Despite the 1-0 advantage, Gonzaga sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Haugen marked eight saves and posted her first shutout of the year. Wyoming's Scheider tallied four saves for the game.
Freshmen Brittney Fracolli and Beth Drollinger led the defense for the Bulldogs, along with Stacey Sarro and Katie O'Brien. Ashley Pryor, Sarah Hawkins and Rachael Manning each had three shots for Gonzaga. The Cowgirls were led by Angela O'Dell and Mari Gomes with three shots each in the Wyoming effort.
Shots were evenly matched between the teams as the Bulldogs had 11 and the Cowgirls notched 10.
Gonzaga women's soccer will be back in action as they continue their four game homestand on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. as they play host to University of Northern Iowa.
