Franklin and Jenson both score first collegiate goals for Zags

SEATTLE – Seattle University got a goal from Leila Leano in the 87th minute that proved to be the difference in an evenly matched game, as the Redhawks (3-1-2) escaped with a 3-2 win over Gonzaga women's soccer Sunday at Championship Field.

The Bulldogs had a 14-13 edge in shots, while both teams had four shots on goal. GU had an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The Zags (2-3-1) received first collegiate goals from Kalia Franklin and Sienna Jenson.

Franklin opened the scoring in the 10th minute, kicking in a loose ball off a corner kick by Amelia Severn. It was Severn's 15th career assist, which is tied for the third-most in program history. She currently leads the Pac-12 Conference with three assists this season.

Less than a minute before halftime, Seattle's U'i Kaaihue tied the match with a curling strike. It was her fourth goal of the season.

Miyah Suster put Seattle ahead in the 50th minute, with Kaaihue credited with the assist. Gonzaga freshman Sienna Jenson calmly struck for her first collegiate goal in the 61st minute. Shila Rasoul and Samantha Snorsky recorded assists on the goal.

Leano's game-winner came with less than four minutes remaining in the match off an assist from Sydney Grundland Lanuza.

Gonzaga returns home and hosts Wyoming (3-2-0) Thursday at 4 p.m. The Cowgirls eased past South Dakota at home Sunday, 5-2. The game will be broadcast live on YouTube, with live stats available on GoZags.com.
