MISSOULA, Mont. - The Gonzaga University Men's tennis team had another good day at the Montana Fall Invitational as two doubles teams advanced to the semifinals round Saturday.
GU's tandem of junior Reid Arthur and senior Dru Ernst handed Eastern Washington University's Brandon Hair Aaron Heier a loss, 8-3. Junior Bryce Cooper and freshman Marco Pineda advanced by defeating EWU's Andrew Cohoe and Brian Garfield, 8-3.
In singles play sophomore Brett Womack was defeated by the University of Idaho's Terrance Nugent in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. Freshman Cooper Fratt won his first match defeating Stuart Wing of the University of Montana, 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 and lost his last match to Nugent, 6-4, 6-4. Ernst was defeated by Montana's Varun Giri, 6-2, 6-3. Arthur won his first match defeating UM's Gus Treyz, 7-5, 4-6, 10-6 and lost his last match to Giri 4-6, 7-5, 10-3. GU's final singles match saw junior Bryce Cooper get defeated by UM's Jim Strauch, 6-2, 4-2, ret.
The Bulldogs doubles teams will be back in action on Sunday as the Montana Fall Invitational come to an end with play starting at 9:30 a.m.
