Box Score

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Gonzaga University's misfortune continued at Buck Shaw Stadium as 15th ranked Santa Clara University defeated the Bulldogs 2-0 Friday in a West Coast Conference men's soccer match.

Gonzaga (6-12-0; 2-7-0) is now 0-6-1 at Buck Shaw Stadium. The Broncos (13-4-0; 6-3-0) remained in the WCC title chase with the victory. The Broncos swept the season series with the Bulldogs, the then 4th-ranked Broncos taking a 1-0 victory.

It didn't take the Broncos long to get the lead Friday. Ryan Wolfe's header front in front got past Gonzaga keeper Dade Smith at 1:17 for his first goal of the season. Kelechi Igwe, who assisted on the first goal, ended the scoring at 11:32 on a penalty kick that beat Smith to the lower left corner for his second goal of the year. He had dribbled into the box, was fouled by a Bulldog defender and awarded the penalty kick.

Santa Clara outshot Gonzaga 9-3, and Erik Ustruck just missed giving the Broncos a 3-0 lead when his second-half shot bounced off the right post.

Bronco keepers Kent Harkness and Christopher Moreo combined for SCU's ninth shutout of the season, Harkness being called on for the only SCU save of the night. Gonzaga was blanked for the 11th time in 12 losses.

Gonzaga will conclude the regular season next weekend with a Friday match at Saint Mary's College and a Sunday contest at the University of San Francisco.
