SPOKANE, Wash. -The Gonzaga University men's tennis team had two advanced to the semifinals round in singles and three advance to the quarterfinals round in doubles during day two of the Whitworth Fall Classic men's tennis tournament Saturday.

In the second round of singles play Gonzaga dominated as six of the seven GU players advanced on to the third round of play. The only blemish in the second round came when junior Robert Penney was defeated by unattached Jones in straight sets 6-4, 7-5.

In round three of singles competition the Bulldogs picked up three wins when sophomore Brett Womack defeated unattached Gullickson in straight sets 6-2, 6-0. Freshman Cooper Fratt advanced on when he defeated Eastern Washington University's Hair 6-1, 6-0 and the third win in this round for GU came when Reid Arthur downed EWU's Brooks 6-1, 6-4.

GU's three losses in the third round came when senior Jesse Goldsmith dropped his match to unattached Daily in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. Michael Azuma was defeated by Eastern Washington's Davis 6-4, 6-2 and Marco Pineda lost in straight sets to unattached Jones, 6-4, 6-4.

In the quarterfinals round Fratt defeated EWU's Hair in straight sets 6-2, 6-0 and Womack defeated Arthur 5-5, ret.

In first round doubles action GU's Goldsmith/Penney defeated unattached Gullickson/Hough 6-0, 6-0 and Arthur/Azuma defeated unattached Dillingham/Mcintosh 6-1, 6-1.

In the second round of doubles the Bulldogs had three teams advance to the quarterfinals. Fratt/Pineda defeated Goldsmith/Penney 6-0, 6-3, Arthur/Azuma defeated EWU's Garfield/Erickson 7-5, 7-6 and Womack/Cooper defeated EWU's Davis/Craig 7-6, 6-0.

The quarterfinals round of doubles saw a sweep for GU as the teams of Fratt/Pineda, Arthur/Azuma and Womack/Cooper advanced on in straight set victories.

The Bulldogs will continue play in the Whitworth Fall Classic on Sunday with matches starting at 9 a.m.
