LEWISTON, Idaho -Despite sweeping the doubles matches, the Gonzaga University men's tennis team lost its second straight match of the season to Lewis-Clark State College, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon at the Lewis-Clark State Tennis Center in Lewiston, Idaho.

Gonzaga jumped out to a 1-0 lead behind their first doubles sweep of the season. In the No. 1 doubles match senior Dru Ernst and junior Bryce Cooper downed Lewis-Clark's tandem of Borja Molas and Ara Sarkissian, 8-3. GU then continued its dominance in doubles play as in the No. 2 slot junior Reid Arthur and sophomore Brett Womack recorded another 8-3 win over LC State's Dimitri Verabyou and Ari Zaslow. GU finished the doubles matches with another 8-3 win as freshman Cooper Fratt teamed with junior Robert Penney and defeated Lewis-Clark State's Andy Hunt and Ali Faris Mohamed.

In singles play the Warriors won the first four matches to give them a 4-1 lead. GU then bounced back with two wins in the final two singles matches. Freshman Cooper Fratt recorded his first singles win of the spring season as he downed the Warriors' Hunt in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Marco Pineda followed Fratt's win with a win of his own as he defeated Lewis-Clark State's Mohamed in straight sets 7-5, 6-4

The Bulldogs will head back on the road this week as they travel to nearby rival Eastern Washington University on Feb. 4 for a 4 p.m. duel match with the Eagles. The match is set for a 4 p.m. start.
