Volleyball Falls To EWU In Three

CHENEY, Wash. - Lizzy Mellor led all players with 21 kills and a .562 attack percentage as Eastern Washington University (14-6) defeated the Gonzaga University Bulldogs (10-12) in three games during non-conference volleyball action at Reese Court. The Eagles combined for 54 kills during the 30-23, 30-20, 30-16 win.
The Bulldogs, who were coming off their first win over a ranked opponent since September of 1993, struggled to find any offense as they finished with 33 kills and a .049 attack percentage. Becky Jones was the top GU attacker with 9 kills and 9 digs as she just missed her 13th double-double of the season. Setter Heather Dunn was the Zags most effective attacker with 7 kills and a .600 attack percentage. Dunn als had 20 assists.
Mellor and the Eagles were on hitting on stride all night as the team combined for a .352 attack percentage. Ashley Jensen also reached double figure kills finishing with 11 and a team-high seven blocks.
Gonzaga returns to action this weekend with West Coast Conference road matches at Loyola Marymount University and Pepperdine University.
