CHENEY, Wash. - The Gonzaga University men's tennis team was defeated by nearby rival Eastern Washington University 6-1 Friday afternoon.
Gonzaga drops to 0-3 on the season with the loss.
In doubles play the Bulldogs were swept but didn't go down without a fight. The duo of freshman Cooper Fratt and junior Robert Penney made the Eastern Washington team of sophomore Kevin Erickson and freshman Keithan Gregg work for their 9-8 win in the No. 2 doubles slot.
In singles play Gonzaga recorded one victory when sophomore Brett Womack battled to a tough 7-6, 4-6, 6-0 win over freshman Patrick Millican in the No. 2 singles spot. Though the Bulldogs lost the remainder of the singles matches GU didn't make it easy on the Eagles. Freshman Cooper Fratt took Erickson to three sets, Reid Arthur took Aaron Heier to three sets and it took Gregg three sets to defeat Penney.
The Bulldogs will look for its first win of the season on Saturday Feb. 5 when they will battle with another nearby competitor in Whitman College in a 1 p.m. match in Cheney, Wash.
