BOISE, Idaho - The Gonzaga University men's tennis team dropped its first two matches of the Boise State Red Lion Spring Break Tournament Thursday afternoon losing 6-1 to both Texas A&M University Corpus Christi and to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

In the first match against Texas A&M Corpus Christi the Bulldogs recorded a victory in the No. 5 singles slot when freshman Marco Pineda defeated David Plasencia. Pineda dropped the first set 6-4, but rebounded with a 6-1 win in the second set and finished the job with a 6-4 win in the third set to capture the match.

The Bulldogs were swept in doubles play losing 8-1, 8-2, 8-3.

In the second match of the day the Zags again scored a win in singles play as Dru Ernst downed Cal Poly's Fred Dewitte in straight sets 6-3, 7-6 in the No. 2 slot. Pineda came close to a second singles win as be battled with Travis Crawford, losing the first set 6-4, then rallying for a 7-6 win in the second set before losing the tie break 10-8.

The Bulldogs were again swept in doubles play losing 8-5, 8-0, 8-4.

The Bulldog men will be back in action at the Boise State Red Lion Spring Break Tournament on Friday afternoon as the go to battle with Bradley University at 1:30 p.m.
