MALIBU, Calif. - The Gonzaga University men's tennis team ended its season at 5-17 overall, defeated by the University of San Francisco in the third round of the West Coast Conference Championships, 4-0. The Bulldogs finished in eighth place in the WCC.
The Dons won the doubles point with victories in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Phillip Riise-Hanssen and Pires De Almeida defeated the Bulldog duo of Dru Ernst and Reid Arthur 8-4, at No. 1, and Andrew Hogan and William O'Shea defeated Brett Womack and Cooper Fratt in the No. 2 spot, 8-4. In the final doubles match Gonzaga's duo of Bryce Cooper and Marco Pineda defeated Falko Huttenberger and Timo Kienle in the No. 3 spot 8-5.
San Francisco went on to capture three-of-six singles matches in the quest for seventh place. Huttenberger defeated Womack (6-4, 6-2) at No. 3, Fernando Rodriguez defeated Arthur (7-5, 6-4) at No. 4, and Andrew Bartolina defeated Fratt (6-2, 7-5) at No. 5. Cooper, Ernst and Pineda all left matches unfinished.
