Men's Tennis Opens Play at GU/EWU Tournament

CHENEY, Wash. - The Gonzaga University men's tennis team finally got to open its 2005-06 season at the Gonzaga/Eastern Washington University Tournament Thursday evening after being rained out of their scheduled season opener this past weekend at the Montana Fall Invitational.
Gonzaga's doubles team of sophomore Marco Pineda and junior Brett Womack picked up a doubles win for the Bulldogs on the opening day of play as they defeated the University of Portland's team of Tim Chang and Carlos Machado, 8-6.
GU's other doubles team of freshman Mike Merz and freshman Kyle Baltrusch were defeated by Eastern Washington's Pannhara Mam and Art Karas, 8-3.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday as singles play begins and doubles play resumes at the Gonzaga/Eastern Washington Tournament in Cheney, Wash.
