SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University senior forward George Josten has been named to the ESPN The Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America men's soccer first team for the second straight year.
Josten carries a 3.83 GPA in civil engineering.
It is the third straight Academic All-America honor for Josten, who was a third-team selection in 2005. He becomes just the third three-time Academic All-America selection in Gonzaga athletic history. Men's basketball players Bryce McPhee and Jeff Brown are the others. McPhee was a third-team pick in 1983, a second-team selection in 1984 and a first-team honoree in 1985. Brown was named to the third team in 1992 and was a first-team selection in 1993 and 1994, capping his career by being named the Academic All-American of the Year in 1994. Josten and Brown are the only two-time first-team picks in Bulldog history.
Josten, a native of Idaho Falls, Idaho, paced the Bulldogs in scoring with 17 points while leading the Bulldogs in goals (5) and assists (7). His 34 career goals tie him with Brian Ching for third on the all-time Gonzaga charts, his 17 assists rank third and his 85 points rank fourth.
