Men's Rowing Splits Pair At Pac-10 Challenge

March 30, 2008

NOTE: The original results posted Sunday on Row2k.com for the Pac-10 Challenge had a few mistakes, and because of these mistakes, the men's rowing release posted Sunday had Gonzaga defeating UCLA in the Varsity 8+ re-race. UCLA actually defeated Gonzaga. We apologize for the inconvenience. An updated release is below.

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - The Gonzaga University men's rowing team closed out the Pac-10 Challenge presented by Windermere and hosted by Stanford University on Sunday splitting its two races.

The Bulldogs, rowing a 2000-meter course at the Redwood City Lagoon in Redwood City, Calif., earned a Novice 8+ victory but fell in their Varsity 8+ race. The Novice 8+ defeated Oregon State University for the second-straight week, while the Varsity 8+ lost to UCLA.

The Zag Varsity 8+ initially raced UCLA early Sunday morning, but because the Bulldog boat went off course, they were awarded a re-race later in the day. UCLA earned the re-race victory, closing out the course in 6:39.21. The Bulldogs finished nearly 11 seconds later at 6:50.45.

The Bulldog Novice 8+ squeaked out a five-second victory over Oregon State finishing in a time of 6:35.84. The Beavers posted a time of 6:40.13.

Gonzaga will be back in action April 11-12 when it participates in the George Washington University Invitational. The invitational will take place on the Potomac River in Washington, D.C.
