LAST WEEK: Gonzaga University went 1-0 last week, beating California State University Bakersfield 1-0 in the Zags lone match of the week. Sophomore Sheridan Jones' second goal of season came in the first half and proved to be the match-winner for the Bulldogs. Sophomore keeper Lauren Ames made three saves to post her second shutout of the season.
ABOUT THE MONTANA GRIZZLIES: The University of Montana enters the week with a 1-4-0 overall record after beating the University of Wyoming 2-1 in overtime on Sunday. The Grizzlies lead the all-time series 12-5-0 but Gonzaga University has won the last five meetings including a 1-0 decision in Missoula, Mont a year ago. Kaitlyn Heinsohn leads the Grizzlies in goals scored (3) and in points (6). Head coach Neil Sedgwick is in his fifth season at the helm of the UM and owns a 44-60-7 coaching mark at the school
ABOUT THE WYOMING COWGIRLS: The University of Wyoming enters the week with a 2-4-0 overall record and will face the University of Idaho Friday before matching up with Gonzaga University on Sunday. The Zags beat UW 3-1 in the last meeting in 2004 and lead the all-time series 4-0-0. Emily Layton leads the Cowgirls with three goals scored and Amanda Lathrop owns the team lead in points with 10. Danny Sanchez is in his first year as head coach of the Cowgirls.
RETURNEES LEADING THE WAY: Sophomores Sheridan Jones and Ashley Riley continue to produce for Gonzaga University. Jones, who produced two goals and finished second on the team in shots in 2007, recorded her second goal and second game-winner of the 2008 season in the 1-0 win over California State University Bakersfield this past Sunday. The Hillsboro, Ore. native enters the week leading the team in goals (2) and in points (5). Riley, who finished second on the team in goals and tied for the team lead in assists in 2007, scored her first goal and handed out her first assist of the 2008 campaign in the 3-1 win at Idaho Aug. 29.
MAKING IT COUNT: It took freshman Courtney Peacock just 35 seconds to make in impact for Gonzaga University in her collegiate debut this past weekend. Peacock entered Sunday's game against California State University Bakersfield at the 29:42 mark. After battling Roadrunner defenders for possession deep inside CSUB territory, the Calgary, Alberta native slipped a pass to Sheridan Jones who found the back of the net for the eventual match-winner for the Bulldogs at the 30:17 mark.
A PAIR OF FIRSTS FOR THE ZAGS: Junior Christi D'Agostino and redshirt freshman Katie Spangenberg each recorded their first career goals for Gonzaga University this season. D'Agostino's goal proved to be match-winner in GU's 1-0 win over Portland State University on Aug. 24 and Spangenberg's netter gave the Bulldogs an early 1-0 lead in a match GU wound up losing 2-1 to the University of Washington Aug. 31.
