Bulldogs Fail To Improve Standing During Final Round

MACON, Ga. - With only six birdies in the final round, Gonzaga University's men's golf team was unable to improve its position at the Brickyard Collegiate Championship during Sunday's final round.
The Bulldogs shot a tournament high 305 to finish with a 54-hole score of 905 and 14th place. The University of Georgia took team honors with an 857 and Augusta State University moved into second at 858.
Just one day after three Bulldogs shot 73, nobody could muster better than a 75 Sunday over the 7,128-yard, par 72 Brickyard at Riverside Golf Course.
Sophomore Travis Johnsen, just four strokes out of the lead heading into the final round, shot a 77 Sunday for a 219 to fall into a tie for 25th. Freshman Peter Gullickson, who had rounds of 74-73 the first two days, shot 76 for a 223 and a tie for 39th. Senior Kyle Huus had the best round Sunday for the Bulldogs with his 75, overcoming an opening-day 81 to shoot 73-75 the final two days to finish at 229.
Individual honors went to Russell Henry of Georgia who shot a final-round 68 for a 206 and a 4-stroke victory over Carter Newman of Augusta State.
Oliver Grabb rebounded from rounds of 79-83 to shoot a 77 Sunday, and Francis Santiago shot 79 Sunday after a second-round 90.
The Bulldogs will play their final fall tournament Oct. 25-27 at the Kauai Collegiate Invitational in Lihue, Hawai'i.
