Bulldogs Drop 5-2 Decision At Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Gonzaga University men's tennis team put together a very impressive West Coast Conference opening match at University of Portland Friday but a series of close matches went to the Pilots, resulting in 5-2 setback for the Zags.
The Bulldogs (2-3) were led by Conor Feeney and Roman Dojcak who each claimed singles victories while the tandem of Dojcak and Scott Sullivan posted a win at No. 2 doubles.
The match opened in fine fashion as both teams played three spectacular doubles matches with the Pilots taking two of the three to earn the point. GU's Kevin Eischen and Feeney dropped a well played 8-4 match at No. 1 doubles while Dojcak and Sullivan recorded a 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles. UP was able to hold off the Zags No. 3 doubles team of Levin Guillermo and Jake Davis 8-6 to lock up the point.
In singles play, Feeney won at No. 2 7-6, 7-6 and Dojcak followed with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3. The Pilots went on to take the final three singles matches. Sullivan played well at No. 4, forcing his match to go three sets but eventually suffered a 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 defeat.
Gonzaga continues on the road, facing the University of Oregon in Eugene Saturday.
