BAJA CALIFORNIA, Mexico - Peter Gullickson, feeling a little under the weather, nonetheless shot a final-round 72 Saturday to lead the Bulldogs on the final day of the Cabo Collegiate at Club Compestre Golf Course.
The Bulldogs shot a final-round 302 and slipped from 10th to 11th with a 54-hole score of 910.
Erik Krzyzanowski shot a final-round 77 over the 6,966-yard, par 71 layout and finished at 224 to tie for 34th to lead the Bulldogs. Krzyzanowski finished 39th. Travis Johnsen fired a second-straight 75 Saturday and finished at 231, James Fay shot 78 for a 54-hole score of 234 and Brendan Connolly shot 81 for a 240.
"Peter played a solid round today despite not feeling well," Gonzaga head coach Robert Gray said. "Our other scores were similar to the rest of the week. I spent a lot of today with Brendan and he hit it much better than his score indicates. We just hit shots in spots that made it very difficult to get up and down or two putt. They weren't awful shots, but that's how precise you have to be at this course. It was those kinds of things we did all week as a team. We'd get one or two good scores each day from different players then struggle with the rest."
The University of Arkansas ran away with the team title, shooting a 21-under par 831 for a 26-shot victory over Southeastern Louisiana University at 857.
Sebastian Cappelen held on for the individual title at 8-under par 205 for a 2-shot victory over fellow teammate Austin Cook, who made a charge at Cappelen with a final-round 67.
The tournament ended the fall season for the Bulldogs and Gray said it will be a welcome break.
"Now we move into our off season where we'll focus on finals and take a break before preparing for the spring season," Gray said. "It's been a season of ups and downs, and that's not unexpected with our youth. The winter break will be a welcome time after a busy spring, summer and fall."
