
WSOC Heads Out on Last Road Trip of Season

SPOKANE, Wash.—Making its final road trip of the regular season, the Gonzaga University women's soccer team will head to the Bay Area for a pair of crucial matches at Santa Clara and San Francisco this weekend.
"The team was very focused this week on our preparations for a challenging weekend on the road at Santa Clara and San Francisco," said Gonzaga women's soccer head coach Amy Edwards.
The Zags enter the road trip coming off a two-match homestand against the Los Angeles-area schools. They opened the weekend with a tough 2-1 loss to Loyola Marymount but rebounded nicely, taking their first point from a ranked team since 2007 with a 1-1 draw with No. 11 Pepperdine. Seniors Mikayla Anderson and Kasey Rubosky netted both Bulldog goals over the weekend while both Karley Baggerly and Heather Johnson tallied assists and lead the team iin shots taken at 10 and eight, respectively. Also, keeper Christie Tombari came up big in both games, making 14 saves throughout the weekend including one on an LMU penalty Oct. 24.
Gonzaga starts the weekend with a key Halloween match at Santa Clara. The winner of that contest, which will kick off at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31, will take third place in the West Coast Conference standings heading into the season's final two matches. The Broncos are currently 11-6-0 on the season with a 4-2-0 record in conference play, most recently splitting a trip to BYU and San Diego. Sofia Huerta leads the team with 12 goals and 27 points while Andi Tostanoski has spent the vast majority of time in goal, making 58 saves while tallying 21 goals for a 1.23 goals against average.

After playing at Santa Clara, the Zags will make the short drive up to San Francisco to take on the University of San Francisco Sunday, Nov. 2, at 1:00 p.m. The Dons are 6-9-2 overall with a 2-4-0 record in WCC action and are currently eighth in the conference standings. Both Jessica Nakae and Mackenzie Krieser have scored three times for the Dons, while Nakae is the squad's points leader with seven. Madalyn Schiffel has most of the minutes in goal, making 57 saves while allowing 20 goals and a 1.15 goals against average.
