KANSAS CITY, Mo.— Gonzaga University's soccer teams were recognized for their excellence in the classroom Monday as both the women's and the men's squads earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award, as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Gonzaga's women's soccer team earned the award for the sixth consecutive season, posting a 3.43 GPA over the 2013-14 school year. Along with the University of San Francisco, the Zags led the rest of the West Coast Conference in team GPA.
On the men' side, the Bulldogs were recognized by the NSCAA for the 12th consecutive season, tied for the sixth-longest stretch among all collegiate men's soccer programs. They too posted the highest team GPA last season, tallying a collective 3.17.
Winners of the NSCAA Team Academic Award must post a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher in the previous academic year. A total of 861 teams (582 women's, 279 men's) earned the award this season for their classroom successes last year. Only 188 schools saw both the women's and the men's programs recognized.
