SPOKANE, Wash. - Graison Le scored the Bulldogs first goal of the season but it wasn't enough as Gonzaga University men's soccer lost to UW-Milwaukee 2-1 Sunday at the Panther Invitational.
Le ripped a shot from outside the box into the upper left corner at 27:55 to draw the Bulldogs level. Reid Stevenson had given the Panthers the lead with a header in the 18th minute. The match was evenly played with UW-Milwaukee holding a narrow edge in shots (16-14) and shots on goal (9-7). Nick Moon scored the game winner for the Panthers, beating Gonzaga goalkeeper Chris Lowrimore to the far post at 65:08.
"It was an evenly played match," said head coach Einar Thorarinsson. "We saw a lot of improvement from Friday's match (2-0 loss to Marquette) which is positive."
The challenging schedule continues as Gonzaga (0-3) travels to play at Utah Valley on Friday and at #20 California on Sunday. Cal is the third ranked team the Bulldogs face in their first 5 matches.
"We have a lot of room to grow," added Thorarinsson. "The youngers are starting to get up to the speed of Division I. I knew it would take a little bit of time but we are getting there."
