SEATTLE, Wash.-The Gonzaga University men's tennis team continued play at the ITA Northwest Regionals Saturday, wrapping its involvement in the main singles bracket in Seattle's Nordstrom Tennis Center.
Both Bulldogs that entered the day in the main bracket fell out Saturday as both Hayden Smith and Jordan Smith suffered three-set defeats in the Round of 32. Senior Hayden Smith took on Jake Douglas of Washington, winning the first set handily by a score of 1-6. Douglas bounced back to take the second set 6-4, and he edged Smith by a break in the third 6-4 to advance in the tournament.
Also squaring off against a Husky, Jordan Smith lost the first set 6-3 to UW's Gal Hakak. Smith countered with a 1-6 victory in set two, but Hakak took the third set by a 6-3 scoreline to dash the freshman's hopes of advancing another round.
The rest of the team began consolation play Saturday, but those results were not immediately available.
