Cross Country Quartet Named All-West Region

Nov. 14, 2015

NEW ORLEANS -- Following strong finishes at the NCAA West Regionals Friday, Matthew Crichlow, Troy Fraley, Jessica Mildes, and Shelby Mills were all tabbed All-West Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The four Zags on the list is a record-high for Gonzaga. A total of 450 student-athletes (225 men and 225 women) earned the distinction by finishing among the top 25 individual finishers at one of the nine regional sites across the country. Only athletes competing for USTFCCCA member programs are eligible for the award.

Mills led the Gonzaga women's cross country team to a sixth place team finish, after crossing the line in seventh as an individual at the NCAA West Regional on the Jefferson Golf Course Friday. The senior's finish automatically qualified her for the 2015 NCAA Cross Country National Championships in Louisville, Ky., on Nov. 21. Mills became the first GU runner since 1996 to qualify for the national championships.

Mildes came in 21st place in the women's race with a time of 21:09.4. Crichlow's 18th place finish was the best for GU in the past 20 years. The redshirt senior crossed the line at 31:30.3. His time is the 12th-fastest in program history on a 10,000-meter course. Fraley followed closely behind in 23rd place with a time of 31:39.9.

The Gonzaga women and Crichlow will anxiously wait for the national fields to be announced Saturday. Both have a chance at at-large berths. The announcement will be made on NCAA.com.
