Dec. 21, 2015

WCC Video Release

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Sophomore forward Domantas Sabonis was named the WCC Player of the Week for the second time this season after an ultra-productive week in two Gonzaga wins, league officials announced Monday.

The award is Gonzaga's third of the season with Sabonis earning the honor on Nov. 23 and senior forward Kyle Wiltjer doing the same one week later on Nov. 30.

After posting 21 points and 12 rebounds in an 86-50 win over Saint Martin's, Sabonis dominated Tennessee at the Battle in Seattle. Against the Vols, Sabonis was unstoppable, posting 36 points and 16 rebounds -- both career-highs -- on 12-of-16 from the field and 12-of-15 from the free throw line. His career night, helped GU hold on for an 86-79 win at KeyArena.

For the week, Sabonis knocked down 22-of-29 (.759) from the field and 13-of-16 (.813) from the free throw line while posting two double-doubles with an average of 28.5 points and 14.0 rebounds. His 36 points against Tennessee marked the second-highest scoring game by any player in the WCC this season, and his two double-doubles gave him five for the season, which ties him for the league lead.

Gonzaga (8-3, 0-0) opens WCC play on Monday night with Pepperdine at 6 p.m. at the McCarthey Athletic Center. The game will be televised on ESPN2 and streamed on WatchESPN.com.
