ZAGS OPEN MAY UNDER THE LIGHTS:
- After a 12-day break from competition, Gonzaga returns to the track at the Oregon Twilight Friday.
- Only a trio of Zags, Kyle Branch, Kellen Manley and Mason Villarma, will be running at the annual meet.
- The Bulldogs have only three more chances to qualify for the NCAA West Regionals.
ABOUT THE MEET:
- Some of the nation's finest professional and collegiate athlete's will be assembled at Hayward Field, Friday for the annual Oregon Twilight.
- The Oregon Twilight will have a portion televised live on the Pac-12 Networks, from 6 p.m.-7 p.m. The earlier portion of the meet will be streamed for free on GoZags.com.
LAST TIME AT THE MEET:
- Andy Phillips finished in eighth place at the Oregon Twilight at historic Hayward Field in 2015.
- Phillips finished with a time of 4:05.28, the fastest outdoor mile in school history.
- He nearly missed his goal of the illustrious four-minute mile barrier, the most significant time goal in American track and field.
- Phillips placed third in his heat behind Justin Kent of British Columbia (4:04.99) and Portland's Ryan Poland (4:05.00). Oregon's Eric Jenkins (3:58.09) and Will Geoghegan (3:57.53) came in first and second.
- Phillips would run a school-record 3:43.90 two weeks later at the Portland Twilight to qualify for the NCAA West Regionals.
ADAMS MOVES UP IN PULLMAN:
- Casey Adams climbed up the GU men's 3,000-meter steeplechase all-time list last Saturday.
- He was the lone Zag to compete at the Cougar Invitational in Pullman, Wash.
- The redshirt senior crossed the line at 9:23.19, placing first in the event.
- Adams previous personal record was 9:25.92 ran at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 14.
RETURNING TO HAYWARD FIELD:
- This will be the second time Gonzaga has competed at Oregon's Hayward Field this season.
- The Zags ran several new top-10 program marks at the Oregon Relays on April 15.
- The GU men took the top two spots in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Kellen Manley and Kyle Branch went from fourth and fifth to third and fourth on the GU all-time list with their finishes.
- Manley crossed the line at 9:01.06, while Branch had a time of 9:04.18. Graham Wendle ran the ninth fastest time in program history at 9:30.30.
- In the women's 5,000 meters, Maggie Jones placed fifth at 16:28.29, followed by Shelby Mills in sixth with a time of 16:30.79. Jordan Thurston's sixth place finish of 16:34.81 ranks fourth in women's program history.
- Mason Villarma placed fifth in the men's 1,500 meters. The freshman's time of 3:47.12 is fourth on the GU all-time list. He is also fourth on the program's 800-meter list. Zac Garrard ran a 3:49.61, which ranks sixth all-time.
- Claren Fraher's 4:41.35 1,500-meter time ranks ninth on the program's all-time list. The sophomore won her race and improved her previous personal record time of 4:48.16.
